TECHSPACE SEPTEMBER 2017 NEWSLETTER
TechSpace September 2017 Newsletter: Summer is over, the kids are back in school and there are only 102 days left until Christmas! Yikes! Even though weekends filled with sand, sun, and sea are nearing an end, the season of cooling temperatures, falling autumn leaves, and pumpkin pie are upon us. As we say goodbye to long summer days and warm summer nights, make this month the most purposeful one yet!
With the passing of Labor Day, we can use September as a “new beginning”, if you will, and work on those resolutions we all forgot about during summer. September also means football is back, so hopefully you’ve started on your fantasy drafts and pulled out your jerseys to show some team spirit! So gear up to make September a productive and exciting month!

BUSINESS TIP OF THE MONTH
SMALL BUSINESSES & CYBER ATTACKS
Small businesses make the mistake of assuming they aren’t big enough to be targeted by hackers. Although it is difficult to secure a smaller business due to lack of resources, it still needs to be prioritized. According to Forbes, the first step to securing your company against cyber attacks is to understand the risks. Ask yourself: What methods are used by hackers? What are the different types of fraud schemes and threats? How do they identify points of weakness? Next, develop a strategy and security policy for your company.
It should be embedded in all that you do within your business and everyone should understand it and abide by it. Teach your employees how to recognize warning signs, how to combat a breach, and how to safely operate in their day to day (ex: unique and intricate passwords). You should also never skip those updates – especially those for your anti-virus software! These will help guard you against new threats. Lastly, develop a plan for if you are hacked. It is crucial to always be prepared for a worst case scenario, and to stay a step ahead of hackers.
